The single crochet increase (sc inc) stitch is important in crochet because it helps to widen a round of a project. This stitch is fundamental for forming the shapes of amigurumi plushies, along with decrease stitches, like the single crochet invisible decrease (sc inv dec).
How to make a single crochet increase (sc inc)–in word form:
Complete two single crochet (sc) stitches in the same stitch/work (if you are unsure of how to make a single crochet stitch or need a refresher, click here!). In other words:
- Insert your hook into the work where you want the single crochet increase to be.
- Yarn over.
- Pull through the work. You should have two loops on your hook after pulling through the work.
- Yarn over.
- Pull through the two loops on your hook. This concludes the first single crochet (sc) stitch.
- Insert your hook into the same stitch/work that you did in step 1.
- Yarn over.
- Pull through the work. You should have two loops on your hook after pulling through the work.
- Yarn over.
- Pull through the two loops on your hook. This concludes the second single crochet (sc) stitch and the single crochet increase (sc inc).
