About the Owner

Hi there! My name is Mandy and I’m the owner of Loved & Lovables Crochet! I am a second-generation Hmong-American woman, as my parents and their parents immigrated to the United States from Laos during the Vietnam War. I will forever be grateful for the rich history, strength, and culture of my Hmong people, and plan to offer options to my customers to incorporate aspects of Hmong clothing and stories into the future plushies and products I create.

I graduated college in May 2022 from Brown University with bachelors of arts in computer science and economics. Currently, aside from crocheting the cuddly friends of Loved & Lovables Crochet, I am also working full-time as a data engineer. I am blessed to be able to have a full-time job that I enjoy and also to pursue a creative passion of mine in Loved & Lovables.

I started crocheting in college as a form of therapy, but didn’t start taking the hobby more seriously until this past summer. Keep reading and scrolling to read about my crochet journey!

  • The Start: Clothing

I started crocheting when I was in college, beginning with clothing items like sweaters, crop tops, and bucket hats. I loved the idea of wearing something that I had crafted with my own hands. Stitch by stitch, I became familiar with crochet terminology and I built my skills.

  • Amigurumi Beginnings

While clothing items are exciting to create, I wanted to also crochet items that I could easily gift for others. The summer after graduating college, I had seen DIY crochet kits all over my Instagram, which claimed to teach how to crochet a small amigurumi friend, so I thought I would purchase one and give it a try. From the moment I finished that first amigurumi dinosaur, I was hooked (pun intended). I adored the creature and was so proud that I had created him myself and that he actually turned out to look not too different from the advertised photo on the packaging. He sat on my desk, accompanying me while I worked my full-time job. Eventually, I gave him to my parents so that he could accompany them too on their travels and at home.

  • Discovering More Amigurumi Friends!

Soon after creating him, I felt compelled to attempt the creation of another amigurumi friend, but this time, a penguin. He came out more so in the shape of a pill and also beakless, but he was still adorable to me! I continued to grow my amigurumi skills by inspecting others’ creations and imitating their work. I started writing my own patterns of various animals, some of which you see now in my shop–cows, elephants, piggies, lions, and unicorns. My therapeutic hobby was turning into a passion.

  • Loved & Lovables Crochet

As my amigurumi collection grew, so did my desire to share the magic with others. I have started my own online shop, Loved & Lovables Crochet, a place where people can find these lovable little companions and bring a piece of handmade joy into their lives.

My crochet journey has been a tapestry of creativity, love, and a whole lot of yarn. From clothing to amigurumi, it's been a thrilling ride, and I can't wait to continue sharing the joy of these handmade creations with you. 💖🧶✨
